Gianni is small and shaggy, and as it turns out – elderly as well. She showed up out of the blue about eighteen months ago in one of our Donkey Valley neighbors’ yard and made herself at home. He didn’t have the heart to chase her away and started to feed her and take care of her.
We offer him to spay Gianni during our latest neutering campaign and he agrees. While we examine the little dog, we notice that there’s a growth on Gianni’s belly.
One swift look tells us enough – Gianni is coming with us to the clinic immediately, and not just for spaying.
It’s a mammary tumor that is concerningly big.
Our examination suggests Gianni is over eight or nine years of age.
Our veterinaries spay the little lady and remove the tumor as well as the entire row of mammary glands as means of prevention against reoccurrence.
Gianni will spend the next week in the clinic under supervision – it’s important her wounds heal in hygienic environment.
Six days later, Gianni is recovering very well and looks just as her sweet self. She’s ready to be discharged.
We cannot resist taking a portrait snap – she is too lovely.
Our neighbor is happy to have her back, having called us every day to check on her. He has built Gianni a new warm house for the upcoming colder months.
