In Greece, laws governing owners of herding dogs are not adequately enforced.

These dogs are neither registered nor neutered. Therefore, they can easily be abandoned when they grow old or sick. That is exactly what happens to this adult dog, whom we name Boss. He suffers from a huge tumor on his left hind leg.

The dog is found in a remote village where nobody knows where he comes from. We take action, carry him into our ambulance ...

... and take him with us in our Rescue Centre in Serres/GR.

First of all, the poor animal needs to recover from the journey.

Then he is thoroughly examined, and preparations are made for the amputation of the leg. Sadly, it is unavoidable.

In situations like this, one must not make rash decisions, but always bear in mind what is best for the animals’ welfare.

Boss is also neutered.

Still a bit dizzy, here he is with his funnel, probably wondering what might have happened.

He’s already allowed to go back outside. He’ll stay with us at the Rescue Centre for a month until he’s fully recovered.

Then our patient is driven back to his territory by our ambulance.

One of our volunteers is already waiting and opens the door for him.

Oh, how good it feels to finally be back among the old companions of the streets! Here, Boss can resume his position as ‘Boss’.

Caring and attentive feeding is also guaranteed.

See? How good life can be on three legs!
