Sweet Gyultena

Animal lovers find Gyultena in a ditch by the side of a road. They have to approach the dog very gently, as she barely lets anyone come close and certainly won’t let anyone touch her. Therefore, they simply stay nearby. She needs to get used to the presence of people first. Then they take the dog to our rescue centre.

First thing she needs now is safety, after the trauma she has suffered. And of course she has to be investigated.

Eventually, she does come out of her hiding spot and we immediately notice her trauma – her front left leg is hanging limply and not being used at all.

It was the right decision because once she is in the clinic, Gyultena seems to sense we only mean her well and she allows us to treat her.

It’s not good news – the nerve endings along the leg have been damaged beyond repair. Atrophy (regression of body tissue) is inevitable. Her paw will only get even more injured and bloody from the friction with the ground. This could introduce a bacterial infection into the blood stream. In order not to expose Gyultena to other risks, the leg must be amputated.

Guyltena stays with us in our rescue center until the amputation takes place.

The day of the inevitable surgery has come. But it’s for her best.

And Gyultena is in good hands.

Nothing unexpected happens during the operation.

It’s all over! Gyultena is doing well, considering the circumstances, and it looks as though her recovery will be a quick one.

Even as a three-legged dog, Gyultena can enjoy a good quality of life. And most importantly: she is no longer at risk of infection. 

Gyultena loves and is loved. Just because one doesn't look exactly like everyone else doesn’t mean they are any less valuable. 

The people who found and rescued her continue to look after her. She has found a temporary home with them. 

This special dog would love to settle down for good with a loving family. Who knows, perhaps someone reading her story might want to adopt this innocent animal....
