There are some wonderful animals that leave this world as innocently as they entered it. And who, without ever having experienced the love and warmth of a family, teach us important lessons about dignity, wisdom, love and gratitude.

This is the story of Eve, a beautiful little puppy, whom our co-worker Zoi rescued from a busy road in complete fear and took her to our project “Sunset” near Serres. That was 10 years ago...

Unfortunately, Eve never found a family in all these years despite many efforts of the local animal rights activists, who wanted to adopt her. Everybody was looking for a smaller, prettier or younger dog. Eve was always left behind because nobody realized how special she was: because she loved infinitely without ever asking for anything.

Then suddenly Eve was 10 years old and became ill.

She did not respond to the therapy she had started and it was clear that her kidneys would soon fail.

So Zoi took her home to care for her until the time came. And Eve brought joy in the house for a while, grateful for all that was given to her.

Eve passed away on a Friday, leaving those around her sad and wondering why people can rarely love as selflessly and unconditionally as animals. She will never be forgotten.
