Cassandra has visitors

Cassandra is one of our most unusual inhabitants, being the donkey that has travelled from the farthest to join us in the Valley. She comes from Pernik, a town some 200 km away from Banichan – very far out of our widest reach.

Cassandra’s people were incredibly fond of her. When the time came for the donkey to retire, they did a lot of research and found out about the Donkey Valley. They even arranged a trailer and transportation for their beloved donkey. How could we say no?

Cassandra is deserving of all the love – she is a beautiful, sweet-tempered donkey.

Cassandra has been with us for five years, having settled very well and enjoying her life with new friends. But we are certain she’ll be happy to see her people when they call us asking if they could visit their beloved donkey.

There is much happiness all around. Three generations of ladies are reunited with their old friend, also a lady at the respectable age of 35 – which is quite an advanced age for any donkey and makes her the doyenne of the group.

Usually a little skittish to human touch, Cassandra immediately proves one of the most amazing facts about donkeys: that they remember faces for decades. As soon as she meets her visitors, she stays close to them, pressing against their affectionate hands.

They all go on a little walk through the Valley and we leave them to it, happy to give them some time together. They must have a lot of catching up to do!
