We usually neuter and spay hundreds of animals during our campaigns in Bulgaria.
We would never be able to do it without the help of volunteers and other animal lovers.

In one village, local people help us get two big dogs into the van. The animals are skittish but they are familiar with the locals. The dogs have had litters of puppies around the clock for a couple of years. 

In another village, we have to get a mother temporarily away from her puppy who is watching us with deep suspicion.

We promise to return her to her home and her son safe and sound in no time.

Sometimes, gaining the trust of dogs means sitting on the curb under the sun for hours. 

We can spend an hour coaxing a mother to come with us – locals told us she often has a liter of 10 puppies.

But she’s still not falling for any of our ‘tricks’, so we patiently follow her.

We go to building sites, often in the outskirts of villages and towns where dogs are frequently kept and fed, serving as security guards.

Food is always a great builder of trust.

But love is better. Most dogs are willing to come with us without any force if we simply spend some time with them showing them affection.

Meanwhile in the clinic, some people bring not one but two cats or dogs they’ve managed to catch in their neighborhood.

People from an area of over 50 kilometers keep bringing us animals to be neutered and spayed. Our reach has been growing.

Our patients spend some time waiting for their turn. The person who brought them in usually comes back to pick them up and return them to their habitat.

Some people choose to stay and wait for the comfort of the animal and their own. Even though the animals they bring are strays, the love some humans are capable of feeling for them transcends the concept.
