We will make sure that Mladen will soon feel at home, gain strength, be able to stand up without help and make friends with his fellow donkeys living in the valley.
What more does Mladen need for his well-deserved retirement.... A supporter perhaps?
At www.stie.ch/en/get-involved/support you you will find detailed information about our sponsorship program.
Our activities in Bulgaria, Greece and Italy are only possible through private donations. Thank you - in the name of the animals!
The Donkey Valley is more than a sanctuary!
The Vets in Action treat the donkeys free of charge in villages in the surrounding area, either prophylactically or curatively, and care for their hooves and teeth.
We also explain to the owners, mostly farmers, how to feed their donkeys properly to avoid colic and how to care for them in a manner appropriate to their species.
In return, the owners commit themselves, as soon as the donkey or they themselves become too old to work, to give the animal to us and not to sell it to the representatives of the meat industry, as has been the case before. Then the sympathetic, mostly elderly donkeys are allowed to move into the Donkey Valley.
It very rarely happens like in Mladen's case in which case he came directly to the Valley without being part of our care program. In his case, the owner took good care of him and also made sure that the donkey could spend his old age in a species-appropriate way.
